CADET

cadets tour

Cadet is finally doing a mini UK tour and will be in Birmingham Thursday 7th December  with special guests. Cadet is an artist that I have been excited about for ever since his letter to Krept COUSIN LOVE and his growth in the last 12+ months has been so inspiring. The freestyle, performances around the UK and recently the release of “The commitment 2” album are proof of how much hard work truly pays off.  Inspire is hoping to get an interview with Cadet ahead of his performance.  Check out his latest freestyle #forthep***ychallenge. For the bants and jokes its worth a watch and probably the best one so far that’s come from this challenge.

CELEBRATE WOMENS MONTH ON A HIGH

Womens Month has been quite humbling this year, I didn’t see too much hype but its great to see more well-known brands embracing women more and more. Inspire has touched on Nike  expanding their clothes for women which will include new a range of sports wear for Muslim women and also we will see more ranges for curvaceous women. GO NIKE!! Inspire has also touched on hair stories around the world as we see more young girls and women accepting their natural hair.

Mothers Day was embraced 26th March and as always I love seeing the pictures and videos of the moms from those I personally know and even celebrities.

Another interesting event which took place last week in Florida was the LWBET (Leading Women Defined conference). The event was hosted by BET Network from 21st March-24th March, where there was numerous of activities, discussions, music and attendees from the Erykah Badu, Kelis and Megan Good to name a few.

Leading Women Defined gathers the most prominent African American women in the country for poignant conversations on issues that matter to them most and their communities. Past LWD participants include luminaries such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Erykah Badu, Robin Roberts, Cicely Tyson, Kamala Harris, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, Hillary Clinton, Venus Williams, Thelma Golden, Janelle Monae, Regina King, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, and the late Dr. Dorothy Height.

What do you get when you mix snares, kicks and bass? (For those that don’t know a snare is the small double-headed drum that makes like a rattling sound. The kick sound is literally a kick in the beats, it usually breaks everything down).

In this case when you put  snare, kicks and bass you will get Roska and Champion productions. If you love funky house music then you should be familiar with those two names as both have worked across UK funky, house and various bass-heavy club music. Roska and Champion have earmarked themselves as one of the UK’s most accomplished underground exponents.

Read more about Roska here

Champion is best known for creating legendary and timeless beats and basslines that can only be described as the ‘Champion’ sound. Read more about Champion here

The legendary DJ’s/Producers have been cooking up some serious sounds that just sound BAD!!  They have recently uploaded 2 tracks entitled ‘Squiggle/Flame Grilled’. My personal favourite is Squiggle but I like how I  can hear their signature kicks, snares and bass in both tunes and I can identify who’s who in both tracks. Its genius how they have both fused their styles together and come up with Squiggle and Flame Grilled.

To keep curves relevent I and so many my friends thought that this catwalk by Addition Elle was brilliant, the models looked fierce. Curves on the catwalk is sexy, as demonstrated by these models for fashion week last month. They looked gorgeous and I hope the fashion industry really changes how plus size is represented and actually represent it more.

BRANDY SLAYANA TOUR REVIEW

image

Last weekend Inspire mysmile had the pleasure of seeing the songress Brandy in concert at Birmingham O2  with performances from the rising star Rebecca James and a bad boy performance from Shakka. On the night was also entertainment from BBC 1xtra DJ Ace who got the audiences out of their seats and were dancing away to throwbacks from the 90’s era. What a night it was!!

As I was amongst the crowd I over heard quite a few people saying how “Brandy hasn’t aged at all’ she still looks as youthful like back in the Moesha days”.It was touching to hear the crowd sing every song, word for word back to the star. My personal highlight for me was the choreography, there were a few moves that just made me want to jump on the stage and join the dancers. I loved how Brandy and her two male dancers mostly stayed in a 3 formation throughout the night it was seriously entertaining.

Another moment that was very touching and emtional was the tribute the late Whitney Houston, as she took a moment to just reflect and sang parts of the  ‘Shoop shoop’ sound track from the film ‘Waiting To Exhale.’ Although Brandy has some real classics and took us 90’s babies back to when R&B was proper soul, emotional music; There were times where I felt the crowd didn’t connect with Brandy and I think that could be to do with the fact that she did openly say that she is shy and actually the shy, humble and calm vibe did reflect on the stage in the first half but when she came out of shell it was just amazing to watch. To end the concert nicely there was a encore to bring Brandy back on stage, and she came back out with ‘Beggin and Pleadin.’

On thing that I will personally say is that when an artist can sing and perform on the stage as if they are recording in the studio and you hear their true vocals it’s just flawless. Brandy is truly humble, flawless and authentic.

See Inspire’s highlights here.
