Dublin born Annie Mac has spent the last decade carving out a career as broadcaster, taste-maker, talent-finder and international DJ.

Radio 1’s champion of new music, the successor to Zane Lowe and John Peel, Annie Mac now presents the prime time weekday evening show from Monday to Thursday as well as her specialist Friday night Dance Show, while maintaining huge success as a live DJ in demand from stadiums to night clubs.

Her own Annie Mac Presents brand (AMP) hosts events with stellar line-ups personally curated by Annie at venues and festivals worldwide and delivers a highly anticipated annual compilation series.

Annie worked behind scenes at Radio 1 for 2 years before her Friday night show. Describing her first impressions of Radio 1 as “Terrifying.” After creating demo of a show that was already on the show. Annie first show was 9 pm every Thursday. After Zane Lowe Annie’s second show was live from Ibiza, before taking over from Pete Tong Friday night show.

Annie presented the Sunday night Switch show with Nick Grimshaw.

The concept of the show was just matching 3 hours of good, mellow music. It was literally like a hangover show.

Inspire had the privilege of asking Annie the following question:

What are your 1st thoughts when you hear a good track, and how do you know what’s good?

The important thing is having a connection with the tracks. Sometimes I play songs that I may not feel instantly, then I’ll play them again in a few days or weeks later and then I’ll get a little buzz or some emotion from the tracks.

Annie spoke briefly about her portfolio outside of Radio 1, where she started gigging in room 3 @ Club Fabric and that’s where‘Annie Presents’… started.  Being on the airwaves for 12 years, At 30 years old Annie suddenly realised that she was running a business and also that she is a curator of music for other artists.

One thing that we can say about Annie Mac is that she about the music and feels so strongly about encouraging more women to have a career in radio and in the media. Annie is very fond of Mary Anne Hobbs, Annie Nightingale, Sara Cox, Jamz Supernova and may more of her peers.
